The project was a replacement for the existing Fire Station Number 3, located on Summit Boulevard in Pensacola, Florida. The new station is located at the end of the Pensacola Airport’s runway.
The station is a state of the art facility designed to house two pieces of firefighting apparatus. The building is designed to provide both flexibility and growth for equipment and crews that could be possibly stationed in the future while reflecting the iconic historical character of Pensacola. The interior is designed using durable finishes that are as maintenance free as possible.
The station is designed with the living, support, and public spaces on the east side of the building. The private sleeping spaces are located on the west side of the building with the apparatus bay separating the two to provide acoustical privacy. Notable interior spaces include a training room that can be used as a public meeting space without compromising security in the facility. An exercise room with athletic flooring is provided for the fire fighters. The site is designed with the public parking and access located on the north side of the building. Exterior covered patio is provided for outdoor activities and cooking by the staff. The program includes the customary fire station living and sleeping spaces. The landscaping incorporated a vegetable garden to provide fresh garden produce for the occupants.
